"During the last Blade Show I walked around the show and tried out all the premium pens I could find to compare them to the new Assegai Titanium pen from Arno Bernard.

Here are my take-aways.

It has the smoothest bolt action of any pen I found. That is not by accident, they polish all the interior surfaces to make sure it is smooth as glass. I suspect that most of the pens I handled were assembled right off the CNC’s without any deburring.

The optional, interchangeable caps that mirror the exotic handles found on their folding knives are a unique feature that we did not see anywhere else. Choose from petrified mammoth molar, Desert Ironwood, warthog ivory, inner kudu bone and a wide range of synthetics.

The pocket clip which serves as the bolt is over-built for the application with a hidden screw consistent with the sleek design. This contrasts nicely to several of the pens I saw where the screw holding the clip was visible and/or the construction of the bolt mechanism seemed like it would be the Achilles heel.

You always know if word is getting around a show about a new product as on the last day of the show competitors find their way to your booth. We saw several of the market leaders and after they worked the action a dozen times they usually said “congratulations" or "smooth” before walking away.
