This is a larger sized version of the Zulu stabbing spear that comes from Swaziland in Southern Africa. The Swazi were an offshoot of the Zulu and adopted many of their customs and weapons. This has the cowhide tail wrapping securing the shaft of the spear that is unique to the Swazi. This beautifully crafted piece measure 60” overall with a17” top iron section and a razor sharp 15” blade. The last 5.5” of the shaft features a palm swell that is thicker than the rest of it to provide a better grip during extraction. We estimate this piece dates back to approximately 1850 and possibly older. This outstanding piece most likely saw battle during one of the many conflicts of the day. These are much rarer than the more commonly seen stabbing spears made by the Zulu.
