This very large Zulu stabbing spear came from South Africa before that nation was civilized. This magnificent piece has a rawhide basket weave wrapping that is in excellent condition securing the shaft of the spear that is unique to the Zulu tribe. This beautifully crafted piece measure 55.5” overall with a17” top iron section and a razor sharp 14” blade. The last 5.5” of the shaft features a palm swell that is thicker than the rest of it to provide a better grip during extraction. We estimate this piece dates back to approximately 1850 and possibly older. This outstanding piece most likely saw battle during one of the many conflicts of the day. Expect to pay two to three times as much for this same piece at the bigger auction houses as they are becoming increasingly rare.
